Guy Ghazanchyan

Yerevan, Armenia

Guy Ghazanchyan, born in 1991 in Yerevan into a family of artists, has been immersed in creativity since childhood, presenting himself from an early age solely as an artist. He studied at the Yerevan Academy of Arts, where his 2011 diploma work "I KNOW WHERE IT'S FLYING" received the Eduard Isabekyan Prize. A residency at Paris's Cité des Arts in 2012 propelled his exhibition career, leading to solo shows in Yerevan, Wiesbaden, Groningen, Zurich, and Beirut. Ghazanchyan's figurative and monumental paintings explore themes of flight, freedom, and movement, complemented by distinctive bronze sculptures. His works have been recognized with awards such as the 2015 Youth Prize of the Armenian President Art, and he has collaborated with AvestArt Gallery, including a 2017 solo exhibition in Washington DC.

The 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war marked a turning point in Ghazanchyan's work, inspiring a new period characterized by expressive energy and reflective depictions of young men, as seen in his 2021 exhibition "AKANates" at the Yerevan Museum of Modern Art. Some works from this show were included in the museum's permanent collection and 2022 album. In 2022, he continued exploring contemporary human identity through the vibrant portrait series "IUVENIS" (Youth), highlighting confident young individuals. Across his career, Ghazanchyan's central pursuit remains the creation of a fresh, expressive image of today's human experience.
