STRATUMISM — Manifesto of Armen Ronov
The layer is a metaphor for the origin of both world and human being, emerging out of elemental chaos. The model of stone-earth becomes an embodiment of Life itself — its surface born from magma, from primordial heat and the deepest geological memory of the planet. The central idea is the body as both canvas and planetary landscape — a living surface through which life, pain, motion, and the breath of the world become visible.
Created at the end of 2020, the Stratumism / Land Art series is based on linen canvas combined with Indian minerals, precious stones, lava-derived pigments, and meteorite alloys — materials that Ronov himself has constructed and synthesized into original paints. This technique — layering, smoothing, and scraping natural pigment surfaces — enabled the creation of richly textured, dynamic fields that define the visual language of the series.
The works presented belong to a strictly limited, timeless series — conceived as objects that exist beyond temporal boundaries, as if already belonging to geological rather than human time.
